Underwater Rugby

2025/2026 Season

Underwater rugby (UWR) is an increasingly popular contact sport. Played beneath the water’s surface at depths of 3.5m to 5m, the goal is to place the ball into the opposing team’s goal. A match consists of two 15-minute periods with a 5-minute break.

The ball is heavier than water. Players are equipped with a mask, snorkel, fins, and a cap (water-polo style), and wear colored swimsuits to distinguish between the two teams.

The playing area is a pool 12m to 18m long and 8m to 12m wide, with a depth of 3.5m to 5m. A full team consists of 6 players in the water and 6 substitutes. Teams are most often mixed, and the sport is suitable for all ages.
